Practical Tips for Dutch Applicants

  • Prepare documents early: Police certificates and medical exams can take several weeks.
  • Check your occupation: Confirm if your job title is on the LTSSL or the Skill Shortage List on the official site.
  • Improve your points: Consider gaining a job offer in NZ before applying or improve qualifications.
  • Use official resources: Refer to Immigration NZ Skilled Migrant Category for up-to-date info.
  • English proficiency: Although Dutch citizens often have strong English skills, be ready to provide test results if asked.
  • Be honest and thorough: Provide complete and truthful information to avoid delays or refusals.

Common mistakes

  • Submitting incomplete EOIs: Missing information leads to rejection or delays.
  • Overestimating points: Be realistic about your points score; use the official points calculator.
  • Ignoring health and character requirements: Undisclosed health issues or criminal records can cause refusal.
  • Applying without a job offer: While possible, having a skilled job offer significantly improves chances.
  • Failing to update EOI: If your situation changes (job offer, qualifications), update your EOI to improve points.
  • Delaying medical and police checks: Start these early to avoid application delays.
  • Using unofficial advice: Always check the official Immigration New Zealand website for current policies and fees.
